PTFE | UHMWPE | PEEK | MODIFIED PTFE | FILLED PEEK
Jacket Materials:
Ultra Seal offers a range of polymer seal jacket materials for spring energized seals, including PTFE, reinforced and filled PTFE compounds, UHMWPE, PEEK and other engineered polymers. Material selection depends on the operating temperature, pressure, media, speed, friction and wear requirements of the application.
PTFE provides excellent chemical resistance for a wide range of sealing applications. Filled and reinforced PTFE compounds can improve properties such as wear resistance, extrusion resistance and performance under demanding operating conditions. Filler compatibility with the sealed media should always be considered when selecting a compound.
At temperatures below approximately -40°C, PTFE and many other jacket materials can harden and shrink, increasing the load placed on the seal energizer and potentially affecting sealing efficiency. Axial face seals are generally less affected than radial seals. Ultra Seal recommends consulting our technical team when selecting materials for applications operating at -40°C and below.
Compare Ultra Seal seal materials and compounds by application, temperature range, coefficient of friction and wear characteristics. Final material selection should consider the complete operating environment and sealing requirements.
